The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has surged past the halfway mark in the 140-member Keralam Assembly, with the latest Election Commission of India (ECI) data showing a commanding edge over the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Party-wise figures indicate the Indian National Congress (INC) has already secured 30 seats and is leading in 34 more, taking its tally to 64, while its key ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), has won 7 and is ahead in 15. Across the alliance spectrum, the UDF’s strength is further reinforced by contributions from partners such as Kerala Congress factions and the Revolutionary Socialist Party.

In contrast, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has managed 14 wins and is leading in just 11 seats, underscoring a sharp slide for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Even the LDF’s broader base, including the CPI, has failed to keep pace.
The BJP-led NDA remains marginal in the state, with no seats won so far and leads in just a handful of constituencies, highlighting its continued struggle for relevance in Keralam’s electoral landscape.
Reacting to the trends, Congress leaders struck a celebratory tone, framing the outcome as both a political comeback and a broader endorsement of the party’s strategy. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said the verdict would add “one more state to have a Congress Chief Minister,” calling it a major victory for party workers and the people of Keralam. He credited the campaign direction of Rahul Gandhi and organisational efforts led by KC Venugopal for consolidating support on the ground.

Echoing similar sentiments, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said the trends clearly indicate that the Congress-led alliance is set to form the government, marking a significant turnaround after recent electoral setbacks elsewhere.
With counting still underway, the trajectory suggests a clear rejection of the incumbent LDF’s decade-long rule. If the trends hold, Keralam is set for a change in government, with the UDF not only crossing the majority mark but doing so with a margin that signals a decisive mandate.
